Grants for Solar PV
In February 2010 the UK Government brought an early end to the Low Carbon Buildings grants programme.
While the original Government grants offered homeowners cash up front to pay for part of the system, the initiative which replaced it means they can make money over many years.
Why not try our Solar Feed in Tariff Calculator and find out how much you could make from the new Feed-in tariff.
What has replaced the solar grant?
The Solar PV Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) now work out better than the old Government Solar grant as the FITs allow those with Solar Panels to earn income for any electricity they generate and from any surplus exported to the national grid, as well as saving on energy bills.
Amid tough economic conditions, the FITs scheme is a welcome replacement to Government Solar grants and environmental ambitions are still supported.
Meanwhile, at a time with few secure investments available, Solar Panels offer homeowners a form of investment that will deliver a positive return on their investment over the life of the system.
What are the benefits of Feed-in Tariffs?
An average 2kWp solar system costs around £6,000 to £8,000 to install. A typical system of this capacity will make over £500 annually – including earnings from the generation tariff, the export tariff and electricity bill savings.
This means the investment made up front to install Solar Panels can be recouped relatively quickly through the ongoing financial returns. Read more about Feed in Tariffs.
Feed in Tariff Benefits
- Invest £6,000 to £8,000 in Solar PV.
- Earn & save over £500 per year.
- Recover investment in 10 - 13 years.
- Earn & save for a further 12 - 15 years.
- An excellent return on your investment.
What about 'Free' Solar PV systems?
You may have read in the press that there are free Solar Panels available that allow you to enjoy some of the benefits of Solar for free. However, they work in favour of the installers rather than households and their financial rewards are limited.
By allowing a company to put Solar Panels on your property for free, you are effectively depriving yourself of the financial advantages of Solar Energy, namely the Feed-in Tariff.
While Solar companies take the payments from the power you have generated, you will only make savings on your electricity bills of up to 50%. Read more about Free Solar PV.
