The panels must face somewhere between SE and SW via South. Other directions are NOT suitable. See Below
Check Size
You must have at least 8 square metres of space to locate the panels. This is roughly the same size as two family cars. See BelowCheck Shading
Solar PV Panels must not be shaded by buildings, trees, chimneys etc. or they will be much less efficient. See BelowRoof Direction
The Solar PV panels must face somewhere between South East and South West via South. All other directions are NOT suitable i.e. West, North West, North, North East and East. Please compare your roof against the examples below to make sure it is suitable.N.B. Fitting Solar PV to East/West facing roofs results in a performance drop of up to 15%. Some installers advise it is still worthwhile and some do not. We are unable to separate enquiries and send them to the correct installers so unfortunately, we cannot help in these circumstances.
If your roof is suitable, select the nearest of the three available options on the application form. If you are still unsure, select Not Sure and one of our Energy Advisors will verify this with you over the telephone.

Roof Size
You must have at least 8 square metres of space to locate the panels. This is roughly the same size as 2 family cars. Looking at your property on the map above and any cars parked nearby, try to imagine them on the roof.If your roof is big enough, select 8m2 Or Above in the Panel Space section. If you are still unsure, select Not Sure and one of our Energy Advisors will verify this with you over the telephone.
Roof Shading
Solar PV Panels must not be shaded or they will be much less efficient. Please check the map above and the property itself to make sure there is no shading. If you are still unsure, select Not Sure and one of our Energy Advisors will verify this with you over the telephone.
Examples of objects that may cause shading include:
- Other Buildings
- Trees
- Telegraph Poles
- Chimneys
- Dormer Windows
